Effects of the Dietary Supplementation of Sucupira (Pterodon Emarginatus Vog.) and Copaiba (Copaifera Langsdorffii) Resinoils on Chicken Breast and Thigh Meat Quality and Oxidative Stability Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Avic.
Lima,CB de; Racanicci,AMC; Oliveira,GR; Migotto,DL; Amador,SA; Souza,TC de; Tanure,CBGS; Vieira,A.
ABSTRACT An experiment was conducted to evaluate the addition of the oil resins ofsucupira (Pterodon emarginatus Vog.) and copaiba (Copaifera langsdorffii) to broiler diets on chicken meat composition, quality, and lipid peroxidation. 350 one-d-old broiler chicks were submitted to seven treatments, consisting of the diets supplemented with copaiba (COP) or sucupira (SUC) resin oils at three different concentrations (500, 900, and 1300 ppm) plus a negative control diet (CONT). At 37 days of age, 10 birds per treatment were selected according to the average weight of the experimental unit and slaughtered to collect breast and thigh meat, which was stored at 4°C for 24 hours to evaluate pH, color (L*, a*, b*), cooking weight loss (CWL), and shear force (SF)....

Lipid peroxidation in female dogs bearing mammary gland carcinomas Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Souza,I.B.; Cardoso,C.V.; Poppe,S.C.; Bondan,E.F..
Nesse...

Oxidative stability of tilapia feeds containing Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Spirulina platensis Ciência Rural
Grassi,Thiago Luís Magnani; Sedlacek-Bassani,Juliana; Ponsano,Elisa Helena Giglio.
ABSTRACT: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of the inclusion of microbial biomass on the oxidative rancidity of tilapia rations stored for 12 months. Treatments included a control diet and diets supplemented with either 0.01% vitamin E, 0.25 and 0.5% of Saccharomyces cerevisiae and 0.25 and 0.5% of Spirulina platensis. Experimental diets were stored in the dark inside plastic bags at room temperature (25 °C) for 12 months. The oxidative rancidity was measured as thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS). It was concluded that the inclusions of Spirulina platensis at 0.25% (1.734 ± 0.206) and 0.5% (1.629 ± 0.181) and Saccharomyces cerevisiae at 0.5% (1.459 ± 0.305) minimized the oxidative rancidity in comparation to control diet (2.843...

Physical-Chemical Characteristics of Designer and Conventional Eggs Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Avic.
Kralik,Z; Kralik,G; Grčević,M; Kralik,I; Gantner,V.
ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to compare the internal and external quality of conventional and designer eggs. In total, 120 Tetra SL laying hens were randomly allotted to two treatments (K and P groups), with 12 replicates of five hens each. The control group (K) was fed a standard layer diet, producing conventional eggs, and the P group was fed a modified diet supplemented with 5% of an oil mixture, 0.5 mg organic selenium/kg, 200 mg lutein/kg and 200 mg vitamin E/kg, producing designer eggs. Treatments did not influence (p>0.05) egg weight or egg component weights. Designer eggs presented higher albumen proportion and lower eggshell proportion than conventional eggs (p<0.01). Relative to egg quality parameters, designer eggs presented...

Quality and stability of eggs from laying hens fed with organic minerals and lycopene Ciência Rural
Cruz,Flavia Kleszcz da; Garcia,Elis Regina de Moraes; Ferraz,André Luiz Julien; Souza,Karina Márcia Ribeiro de; Feliciano,William Britez; Rohod,Rosileide Vilalba.
ABSTRACT: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of using lycopene and organic minerals in diets for laying hens on the egg quality and stability of eggs stored for 30 days under different storage environments. An entirely randomized design was adopted in 2x3x3 factorial scheme (mineral sources x lycopene levels x storage periods) with six replicates of eight hens per experimental unit. The experimental diets were: feed containing inorganic minerals (IM) without added lycopene; IM with added lycopene (400mg kg-1); IM with added lycopene (800mg kg-1); organic minerals (OM) without added lycopene; OM with added lycopene (400mg kg-1); OM with added lycopene (800mg kg-1). After 112 days of feeding experimental diets, it was selected 60 eggs treatment-1, which...
